Our Sports Therapy practice focuses on relief and healing of chronic sports-related soft tissue injuries.  These typically include:
Tight and pulled hamstrings and groin muscles
Achilles tendon injuries
Shin Splints
Heel spurs
Tennis elbow
Chronic lower back problems and sciatica

We use the Muscle Release Technique® and Active Isolated Stretching as the basis for much of my Sports Therapy treatment.  In our experience, over 90% of chronic sports injuries can start healing in 1 to 4 sessions, along with stretching techniques that we will show you during the sessions.  Click here for more information on the benefits of Active Isolated Stretching.

During the each session (particularly the initial session), we will often use some massage techniques to understand the underlying issues in the muscles.  Pain often shows up in one part of the body, while the root cause is in another part of the body.  For this reason, we specifically work on the whole body, not just the traditional sports massage approach of addressing individual muscles.

As an example, one client complained of lower back pain after running.  After working on him for about 30 minutes, the real problem was identified as severe tightness concentrated on one side of his lower hips.  His hips were locked down so tight that they couldn't adequately rotate when he walked, let alone ran.   The back had to "take up the slack", and therefore that's where his pain occurred.  Another client faced significant foot pain, diagnosed as plantar fasciitis.  The underlying cause in this case, however, was tightness in the upper calf muscle;  that muscle attaches on the bottom of the foot, thus the pain was showing up where the tightened muscle was "pulling" on the foot.    In both these cases, once the correct root cause was identified, the client received both immediate relief after the first session, and could initiate long-term healing.
